WW2 Diggers Bag
Expand/collapse
DESCRIPTION
DescriptionThe image shows a World War II Australian Army kit bag, a type of duffel bag used by soldiers to carry personal belongings and uniforms. These bags were typically made of durable brown, khaki, or white canvas.
The bag has stencilled markings in white paint, which were used to identify the owner. The markings on this bag read:
BLAKE C.R. (The soldier's surname and initials)
NX 45935 (The soldier's service number)
The "NX" prefix on the service number indicates that the soldier enlisted in the Second Australian Imperial Force (AIF) in New South Wales to serve anywhere in the world during World War II. Based on the number sequence, it is likely the soldier enlisted sometime in late 1939 or early 1940.
The National Archives of Australia holds records about the service of Australian soldiers and can be a resource for finding more information about individuals based on their service number. Datec.1940'sTypePhotograph
