Remo Giuffré
1960 - present
Remo Giuffré is a creative director, curator, entrepreneur, retailer and brand builder; and the founder of REMO General Store (1988) on corner of Crown and Oxford Streets Darlinghurst. REMO was known for its diverse range t-shirts, stationery, Tempus Fugit wall planners, rubber ducks, bright swimming caps and stripey things. The store closed in 1996 and reopened online for 10 years in 2001. Its impact was due largely to its award-winning catalogues. There also was a smaller REMO store (2008-2012) on Bondi Road.
Growing up in the Eastern Suburbs, attending Waverley College, Giuffré has been a resident in Bondi since the 1980s. He has a Bachelor of Commerce and Law and an MBA from the US. He practiced as a lawyer before moving to the United States as a consultant, escaping the corporate world for a more creative life.
In 2014, Giuffré, using his creative strategist skills, released a book called General Thinker, a visual memoir of interwoven stories of the success and failures that have shaped and guided him. He also founded General Thinking (2001), an invitation only global network of influential thinkers. In 2009, Giuffré acquired the licence for TEDxSydney and was Director (until 2022) for this not-for-profit annual meeting of change makers. Giuffré launched a new book series REMORANDOM, in October 2023, which has been described as a printed curation of snack-sized facts, stories and ideas. Giuffré spends his time at his Bondi apartment with his wife, Melanie and schnoodle, Olive, where they produce a blog, Bondi Fresh Daily (now Bondi Observer), celebrating Bondi and its people.
His two children are also creative with Lola, a designer/jeweller now based in the Netherlands, and Roman an artist. Remo enjoys walking around Bondi Beach, grabbing a coffee and swimming laps in the "champagne lane" at Bondi Icebergs pool and spending time at his other home on the Hawkesbury River.
