Most surfing Santas
2015
In 2015 local business and surf school Lets Go Surfing collaborated with Red Balloon to create a surfing world record. Coinciding with the Christmas period, the world record attempt filled Bondi Beach with as many surfing Santas as possible. Let's Go Surfing coordinated the spectacle with a focus on safety, marshalling waves of surfers dressed as Santa in and out of the surf. At 6:30 am on 15 December, for 30 minutes straight, groups of Santa's poured in and out of the surf. 320 surfing Santas participated that day beating the former record of 250. The event also was a fundraiser for OneWave, a nonprofit surfing organization that raises awareness for mental health issues.
Guinness World Records were on site to oversee the event. The adjudicator Solvej Malouf officiated the record and at the end of the event congratulated the huge group of Father Christmases for their achievement. She presented the organisers with an official certificate, in front of a crowd of spectators and the media. In 2021 the record is still standing.
