Grayson Hinrichs
2003 - present
Born and bred in Bondi, Grayson’s curiosity about wave-riding started at the age of six when he was incidentally run over by a surfer. Then, memorably by Christmas, just before turning seven, he stood on a board for the first time, setting the beginning of a story that would turn him into a household name among the surfing community. Enraptured by the discovery of surfing, he grew up catching waves across Bondi, Bronte and Maroubra with friends and honing new skills. However, he reckons that having joined Bondi Boardriders at the time was especially decisive to gain experience in competitive surfing. Then, by the exceptional young age of twelve, Bondi Globe became his first sponsor and started taking part in comps around Australia.
Since 2017 Grayson has been taking the surfing headlines by storm: that same year he obtained the Australian Junior title, which qualified him for world titles and by the end of 2018 , at only fifteen, during a very intense competition, his performance and focus made him the winner of the ISA World Junior Surfing Championship at Huntington Beach, California.
In 2019 he was the undisputable victor of the Julian Wilson’s 2019 competition. Loving the ocean as he does, spearfishing is another activity where Grayson also excels: a NSW Spearfishing Championship is another of his achievements. He gets the most of both sports combining breath-hold techniques (learnt on an impact zone training at Surfing Australia High Performance Centre) to stay calm if unexpected challenges arise, like when sharks come after the kingfishers he has speared: he drops his heart rate without moving a muscle and, most importantly, keeping eye contact while slowly moving his head and they swim off.
This young Triton encompasses an array of qualities and skills that augur a brilliant future in surfing: an instinct to recognise the right wave, focus, courage, a finest rail game and impressive aerials.
