Dalia Ayalon Sinclair OAM
1947 - present
Dalia Ayalon Sinclair is an artist, poet, and community worker. Born in Israel in 1947, she moved to Australia in 1973 with her husband and their young son and daughter, settling in North Bondi. As Foundation member of Hamoadon and President of NSW Division of National Council of Jewish Women of Australia She became deeply involved within the Jewish community initiating cultural and social activities including Jewish festivals, the Israeli folklore Dances in Sydney, Israel Advocacy event, Mum for Mum and Pink Sunday.
Dalia participated in Waverley Council’s award-winning project, Eat, Pray, Naches, which highlighted Jewish traditions and migration, recognising the Jewish community’s contributions to the local area. In 2013, she was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for her service to the Jewish community.
Embracing Australia’s multiculturalism, Dalia joined 2EA/SBS Radio in 1981 as a producer and presenter, coordinating the Jewish Hour, broadcasting in Hebrew, English, and Yiddish. In 1987, demonstrating her commitment to fostering dialogue and understanding and in cooperation with the Arab language coordinator at SBS, Israeli Ambassador was interviewed on the Arabic radio program. In addition Jewish guests were featured in the French, Hungarian and other languages’ programs. Dalia initiated the ”Working Towards Peace” event which led to the Annual ” Celebrating Israel” event highlighting the the shared Australia Israel history. The awards-winning Mum for Mum program she initiated in 2008, pairs trained volunteers to provide support for new mothers from all backgrounds during their child’s first year. The program operates in Sydney’s Eastern and North shore Suburbs, Northern Beaches, as well as in Victoria.
Educated in Israel, Ayalon Sinclair is a poet and multidisciplinary artist who has been exhibiting painting, photography, installation and video art in Australia, Europe, and Israel. Dividing her time between Australia and Israel, she maintains strong connections with NCJWA and the Jewish community in Australia where her children and grandchildren reside.
