Patrick Moore
1984
Patrick (Pat) Moore joined Bondi Surf Bathers Life Saving Club in 1984, joining his close friends from Waverley College.
Giving back to the club has always been his priority, starting with his years as an active patrol member, then a patrol vice-captain after obtaining his Bronze Medallion in 1985. He was also active in the Bondi Icecubes/Icebergs.
Moore was awarded 25 years’ long service in 2009 and has remained an active member four decade after joining the club. Among his many club positions have been surf boat captain and vice-captain, Nippers’ age manager, Nippers water safety and carnival co-ordinator for the four-day Interstate & International Surf Carnival in 2007.
One of Moore’s many strengths has been as facilities and house manager for 20 years, overseeing club renovations and upgrades. He was rewarded for his ongoing commitment with a Bondi Blue membership. Another rewarding experience was the 2021 approval of a Development Application to upgrade club facilities.
Moore’s surf competition career began in 1984 as a cadet in the rescue and resuscitation team with club life member Adam Nezval. Their team won multiple medals that season including Gold in the Australian championships.
He also competed in swimming, boards and ski events, but found his passion in craft disciplines, winning many Open carnivals including medals in the taplin relay, ski and board (including relay) and double ski at the State Stillwater Championships in 1991. He also earned selection in the Waverley District Team from 1990-92. He has been a competitor in the Ironman series and represented Bondi in many Stan McDonald swim relays.
In 2000 Moore began rowing surfboats with clubmates, taking leadership roles in the boat section as boat vice-captain from 2001-2006, and boat captain in 2006-07 and 2018-19. Moore has won many medals as a surfboat competitor, including eight in the Sydney Branch Championships, three at State titles, Bronze at the world championships at Lorne in 2006 and at the Australian titles.
