Leon Goltsman
1972 - present
Leon arrived in Australia in 1978 with his mother, father and sister. Together they travelled from the Ukraine via Vienna and Italy. Leon's father had a cousin in Australia who described it as the lucky country and encouraged his family to migrate here against the backdrop of Russian pressure to return to Israel in the 70's and 80's. Leon's parents chose Bondi because it was a community of like-minded people. As a family they would go down the beach and made lifelong friends. People would play hide and seek back at the Pavilion, climbing trees and doing naughty things that we were told that we shouldn’t be doing. Leon attended Bondi Beach and Rose Bay public schools, and then Emanuel and Vaucluse high schools. Leon has a diploma in Business Management and is also a graduating member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
A teacher of martial arts and self-defence, Leon has represented Australia at international karate tournaments, mentored dozens of dedicated young professionals and generated a host of innovative ideas that he introduced into the marketplace through the businesses that he both owns and operates. His previous tenure as Vice Chair of the Sydney Coastal Councils Group and the Chair of the Waverley Council’s Environmental Sustainability Advisory Committee has paved the way to a cleaner and healthier environment, whilst his stewardship of the Multicultural Advisory Committee has seen the community introduced to a series of projects which aim to promote both equality and multicultural harmony.
Leon is a Liberal Councillor currently serving on Waverley Council.
