Keith Whitehead
1931
Keith Whitehead from the Bondi Waterpolo Club in Sydney represented Australia in three Olympic Games at Helsinki (1952), Melbourne (1956) and as vice-captain at Tokyo (1960). Keith (like goalkeeper Doug Laing) was first selected for Australia in the 1950 team for the Christchurch Centenary Games before being chosen in the NSW State team. He represented NSW from 1951 to 1960 and was captain for the latter four years. Along with fellow Bondi team mates, Doug Laing and Ray Smee, he was the defensive mainstay for Bondi, New South Wales and Australia throughout this era. In a period when there were no World Championships and the Australian team was only selected every four years, Keith still managed to accrue 62 international caps. He was a pivotal member of Bondi during their record breaking ten-year NSWAWPA 1st grade premier winning streak.
