Dori Miller
1970 - present
Hailing from New Haven Connecticut, Dori has been a competitive swimmer from 11 years of age. She attained an Athlete Scholarship to the University of Maryland. A testament to her tenacity and commitment to swimming; Dori has swum the English Channel 4 times, and completed a gruelling two-way swim in 2016 in 26hrs 21 minutes.
Dori migrated to Australia in 2009 and joined the Bondi Surf Club in 2010. She quickly cemented herself in Club activities as a patrolling member and fierce competitor. She has held the roles of Vice and Patrol Captain for a number of years and holds the coveted Gold Medallion for Surf Lifesaving. She has won more than 40 gold medals in Masters Surf Life Saving and pool rescue Australian championships, and was named NSW Surf Lifesaving Masters Athlete of the Year in 2014. When she joined the Club Dori met, and married, Life Member Nick Nezval; a union of like minds sharing a passion for surf lifesaving and surf sport competition.
Dori has held the position Director of Surf Sports at the BSBLSC for three seasons to date and was instrumental in building up the Masters Competition Strategy (vision, mission statement) in 2016. She has also held the positions of Ocean Events Organiser and Race Director for the Bondi Blue Water Challenge.
Dori is a consummate athlete in the water and on land competing in Ironman Wisconsin, the Boston Marathon 5 times and the Philadelphia Marathon 2 times. She has consistently won many awards at Bondi Surf Club including the Presidents Award, Lifesaver of the Year 2020. Dori is a role model for women in Surf Lifesaving; highly skilled in lifesaving activities, driven in competition and committed in her service to the Club. in 2022 she was inducted into the SLSA Hall of Fame as a Masters Legend.
