Bronwyn Kidd
1997 - present
Attending the first Flickerfest film screening in Balmain High School in 1991, Bronwyn Kidd didn't know at the time that she would become the Director of this event, let alone expand it to become an internationally recognised film festival. Bronwyn recalls being extremely inspired by that event, increasing her love of the short film format and planting the seed for a life-long career.
Six years later, under the leadership of founding director Craig Kirkwood, Flickerfest had grown in scale and found a home in the Bondi Pavilion. It was at this time that Bronwyn commenced officially working with Flickerfest.
When Craig decided to pursue other ventures, Bronwyn took the mantle as Director, as being a young filmmaker and already enthralled in the creation of multiple short films and full length documentaries, Bronwyn described this move to head Flickerfest as a natural progression.
Having now worked with the festival for over 25 years, Bronwyn has viewed, assessed and programmed thousands of short films and animations. She is an advocate for the short film medium and its ability to quickly respond to social and political issues and under her direction, the festival has grown sizeably with the program touring nationally giving opportunity for interstate cities and regional communities to experience great short films from around the world.
Flickerfest films have screened on networks such as SBS on Demand and ABC Iview and now boasts its own distribution channel. The festival is Academy® accredited and recognised by British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) for BAFTA nomination eligibility.
