Sophi Odling
Description
Scope and contents
1983 - present
Sydney-based artist Sophi Odling was born in Seoul, South Korea, raised in Sydney and graduated with a BFA at UNSW COFA. Odling worked in the fashion industry for 14 years before working in murals after an artist residency in 2016 located in the outskirts of Chiang Mai, Thailand. On her return to Sydney, the first work she did was for the Bondi Beach Mural Graffiti Wall titled ‘Bondi Bellas’ which was created by hand and brush. Her work took 10 days to create, painting through a heat wave at the time. The work was a turning point for Odling to shift focus to aerosols and pursue murals as a full time career.
Odling is now a leading muralist, having created large scale pieces around the world.
