National Surfing Reserve
Description
Scope and contents
2017
On December 2, 2017 Bondi was declared a National Surfing Reserve. At a ceremony including Minister for Lands and Forestry Paul Toole and Member for Vaucluse Gabrielle Upton, Bondi's status as one of the States most valuable crown assets was confirmed. The National Surfing Reserve acknowledges the history of surf and innovation driven from bondi Beach, the beach's position in the history of Australian leisure and its significant environmental value.
Recognising Bondi as a NSR is an acknowledgement of its value as a top surfing break and a place Sydneysiders can continue to be proud of. The implementation of the Surfing Reserve was led by local John Sullivan and was one of the fastest approvals for a NSR to be established.
